Violence

One the day of your birthday you wake up and get ready for school. One the way out the hospital calls and tells you that your best friend died last night in gang violence. When you hang up the phone, go straight to your room, slam the door, and hide under the covers. While your under the covers you think about a life where your safe, where you soul reaches out and touches the people who are cold and scared. Where the sun hits the mountains and gives that tingly feeling you've been waiting so long for. What the point of learning? What's the point of having a birthday? My town is too dangerous for me to be happy. There is always more than one victim when violence strikes.
